Every April, Milan transforms into a hub of creativity for the Salone del Mobile, showcasing some of the most innovative and striking designs from around the globe. This year, although I couldn’t stroll through the vibrant displays in person, I’ve immersed myself in the latest articles and photos to bring you a glimpse of what stood out as the most unique and innovative at the fair. Here are my five top picks.
Innovative Design: Architype by Caccaro
Architype by Caccaro is an exciting new system that changes how we think about furniture and building design together.
This system includes two main parts: a boiserie and a door. Boiserie is special paneling that covers walls, corners, and pillars, making them look stylish. The door is a crucial design feature that not only creates passages between rooms but also integrates seamlessly with the wall. Together, these parts work with storage options to totally rethink how we use walls.
Unique Piece: Canispè by Campeggi
The new Canispè seat by Campeggi is designed not just for “humans” but also for their furry friends like dogs and cats. It has an iconic and playful shape, highlighted by the pastel colors of the soft cushion covers, which allow for various sitting positions for both people and animals. Canispè explores the joy of the relationship between humans and dogs through an unusual type of furniture: a soft place, a seat that surprises with different shapes and fabrics, and creates moments of bonding.
Eye-Catcher: Supersassi di Rossi di Albizzate
The upholstered Supersassi sofa by Rossi di Albizzate, designed by Matteo Thun, is inspired by the rounded shape of the stones from Lake Garda and the furniture of the 1960s. Supersassi need no wall to give them direction.
Green innovation: Wave by Fantin
Craftsmanship Highlight: Lokum di Acerbis
The Lokum coffee tables by Acerbis, with their soft lines, are made of blown glass in amber, white, and gray variants; they are modular and colorful, preserving the essence of a unique and cutting-edge design. They are available in square and rectangular versions. This collection embodies the elegance of pure shapes, elevated through the artisanal use of blown glass.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through some of the standout pieces from the fair. Let’s continue the conversation in the comments below—share your thoughts, your favorite designs, or any questions you might have. And if you ever find yourself in Milan during April, I highly recommend experiencing the magic of Salone del Mobile firsthand. Until next year, keep celebrating great design!
