Home staging tip: Split-level foyers are usually small landings with two flights of stairs, one going up and one going down, and most of the times the living room or the family room is located on the level right above it. The problem with these entrances is that if the sofa is placed against the railing, then the space below, in the foyer, feels smaller, besides the fact that, as you walk up the stairs, you see the huge (and usually unattractive) back of the couch. If the layout allows it, leave the area next to the railing as open as possible. In this case, we decided to use a nice wicker chair instead of the bulky sofa, which was moved by the window.
